President Moon Jae-in on Monday said he supports the "Me Too" movement of victims of sexual harassment identifying offenders.

"I take the Me Too movement very seriously... and I express my respect to the victims brave enough to come forward," he said.

Moon also called on law enforcement to investigate alleged offenses.

In a meeting with senior Cheong Wa Dae officials, Moon said, "Any form of violence and any act in which a man in a stronger position abuses a woman in a weaker position either by force or using his position must face punishment regardless of his status and identity."

Moon also called for measures to root out gender violence throughout society and make sure that victims who speak out are protected from being pressured by their offenders.

Police, meanwhile, said they investigating alleged sexual offenses brought to light in the wake of the Me Too campaign. Lee Cheol-seong, head of the National Police Agency, told reporters, "We are currently looking into allegations involving 19 individuals who are fairly well known."
