A massive North Korean cheerleading squad went home on Monday, 19 days after turning up for the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and dividing observers with their robotic moves and chants.

They looked relaxed and cheerful, even posing for the odd photo with hotel staff, and as they boarded the bus to the border, they expressed their hopes of meeting again.

Hotel staff, who had been looking after them over the past couple of weeks, came out to see them off.

North Korean cheerleaders leave South Korea at customs in Paju, Gyeonggi Province on Monday.

The cheerleaders met up with the North's Olympic athletes at the border checkpoint, including figure skating pair Ryom Tae-ok and Kim Ju-sik, as well as the members of the unified ice hockey team.

It will not be long before another sporting delegation heads to the South. North Korea wants to send a 150-member delegation for the Paralympics which starts on March 9 in Pyeongchang.

The two Koreas will hold talks at the border village of Panmunjom on Tuesday to discuss the details of their visit.
