Skies will be mostly clear and the weather will be mild throughout the country during the lunar New Year's holiday.

Plenty of snow is expected in Gangwon Province and mountainous areas on Wednesday, a day before the holiday begins, the Korea Meteorological Administration forecast on Monday.

But skies will be generally clear across the country from Thursday to Saturday, except southern parts and Jeju Island. On Sunday, the last day of the four-day holiday, rain is expected on Jeju Island while other parts of the country will cloud over.

Temperatures will be similar to or slightly higher than those in previous years. The lowest temperature in Seoul will be 1 degree Celsius on Wednesday, the first time since Jan. 18 that the daily low has been above zero. Elsewhere lows will range from -7 to 4 degrees.

Temperatures in Olympic host city Pyeongchang will drop to -11 degrees on Thursday and Friday and -9 degrees on Saturday and Sunday, more or less the seasonal average.
