Over 22,000 people were hired as full-time workers by public institutions and organizations last year, up some five percent from the previous year and the biggest annual number ever. This figure excludes the annual intake of new civil servants who have passed the civil service exams.

Power monopoly KEPCO created the most new jobs by hiring some 1,500 people. The National Health Insurance Service and KORAIL also hired more than 1,000 new staff. The move is part of the government's effort to address runaway youth unemployment by creating new public-sector jobs.

The government plans to hire more than 23,000 new workers at over 320 public institutions and organizations by the end of this year.
