North Korean ice hockey players arrived in South Korea Thursday with eight North Korean officials who will check accommodations and other facilities that their athletes will be using during the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang next month.
They came to the South by land and plan to stay here for three days, touring Olympic venues and other facilities in Gangnueng and Pyeongchang, both in Gangwon Province.
A dozen North Korean ice hockey players together with a coach and two support personnel will join in training in Jincheon, North Chungcheong Province, where South Korean hockey players have been preparing for the Olympics.
They will compete in a unified team with South Korean athletes in the Olympics, as the International Olympic Committee agreed last week that the ice hockey team will consist of 23 South Korean women, who have qualified for the Olympics, and the 12 North Koreans, who have not.
