Exports of Korean instant noodles reached an all-time high last year thanks to booming demand from China and Southeast Asia, the Korea Customs Service said Tuesday. Annual exports were valued at US$380 million, up 31.2 percent from a year earlier.
China was the biggest importer, accounting for 27.1 percent of total shipments, followed by the U.S. (10.8 percent), Japan (6.7 percent) and Taiwan (5.5 percent).
Shipments to China spiked 37 percent on-year despite the country's unofficial boycott of Korean goods to account for 56.7 percent market share there.
Imports soared in Thailand, and those to Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam more than doubled over the same period.
