North Korean on Wednesday said it will send a 150-member delegation to the Winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang, which follow the Olympics.
The Paralympics will last from March 9-18.
Seoul and Washington have already decided to delay annual joint military drills until after the Olympics and Paralympics to ease tensions. But some overlap between North Korean presence and drill preparation will be unavoidable.
A military spokesman here said, "U.S. troops and equipment will start arriving in South Korea in mid-March to make preparations if the drills kick off in April."
The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, which left California on Jan. 5, is expected to arrive in waters near the Korean Peninsula around the time of the opening of the Olympics.
