The U.S. envoys to South Korea, Japan and China on Wednesday visited the truce village of Panmunjom on the border with North Korea on Wednesday.

Marc Knapper, the chargé d'affaires here, William Hagerty, the ambassador to Japan, and Terry Branstad, the ambassador to China, met South Korean troops there and took a look around.

The rare joint trip was apparently intended to send a message of strong U.S. commitment to its South Korean ally.

But U.S. President Donald Trump's chaotic White House has yet to appoint a new ambassador to Seoul.
