The Seoul Central District Court on Monday postponed the sentencing of ex-President Park Geun-hye's crony Choi Soon-sil from Jan. 26 to Feb. 13.
"We made the decision because we need more time to review the case as it involves many issues and huge amounts of records," the presiding judge said.
Choi is charged with taking W43.3 billion from Samsung in collusion with ex-President Park and extorting another W77.4 billion for her dubious Mir and K-Sports foundations from leading conglomerates.
Prosecutors demanded a 25-year prison term for Choi in the final hearing on Dec. 14.
Some observers suspect that the court is waiting for the appeal verdict on Samsung chief Lee Jae-yong in the same scandal. The ruling in Lee's case is expected on Feb. 5. The sentencing dates for Lotte chairman Shin Dong-bin and Park aide An Chong-bum have also postponed until Feb. 13.
Shin is charged with bribing Park and Choi to the tune of W7 billion, while An is accused of hustling donations for Choi's foundations.
