Hyundai's Grandeur IG was the best-selling domestic car of 2017 with 132,080 units sold, according to industry data released Tuesday.

Sales jumped 92.2 percent compared to the previous year, becoming the first Grandeur model to break the 100,000 mark since the Grandeur HG in 2011, which sold 107,543 units.

In the compact market, Kia's morning led with sales of 70,437 units followed by GM Korea's Chevrolet Spark with 47,244. Among the midsize SUV models, Kia's Sorento and Hyundai's Santa Fe came in first and second with 78,458 and 51,661 units, respectively.

Saangyong outperformed Hyundai in the competitive compact SUV market. Its flagship Tivoli sold 55,280 units, while sales of Hyundai's Kona, which hit the market last July, stood at 23,522 units.

    Among large-sized SUVs, Ssangyong's G4 Rexton (16,381 units) outnumbered Kia's Mohave (15,205 units). Renault Samsung's ultra-small electric vehicle Twizy sold 691 units.

The five domestic automakers' combined sales at home and abroad came to nearly 8.2 million cars, down 7 percent from the previous year's 8.8 million. Renault Samsung was the only carmaker to see sales rise.

Given this performance, Hyundai and affiliate Kia set this year's sales target at 7.55 million cars, 700,000 fewer than last year's but still above last year's 7.25 million.
