The Korea Association of Newspapers on Wednesday urged the government to ask China to investigate and punish Chinese security guards who savagely assaulted two Korean reporters in Beijing.
The two photojournalists were covering Moon as he attended a trade fair in Beijing last week hosted by the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, which had hired security guards that were reportedly under the control of Chinese police.
The association in a statement complained that Chinese judicial authorities have taken no proper steps a week after the assaults occurred, raising suspicions that they are trying to protect the assailants.
It said that would be an "insult to Korea's journalism establishment and diplomatic discourtesy." It urged the Korean government to press China for answers.
