Shin Tae-yong, the manager of the national football team, will call in players for training before he decides on the final roster for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, the Korea Football Association said Tuesday.
Players in the Korean, Chinese and Japanese leagues will gather in January and those in the European leagues will join in March. The final 23-man roster will be made in May.
Meanwhile, the association said it decided to base the team in St. Petersburg, Russia's second-largest city, because it provides a safe, clean environment along with good training facilities.
It is one hour and 30 minutes away by airplane from Nizhny Novgorod, where the first match against Sweden will take place.
It will take two hours and 15 minutes to get to Rostov-Na-Donu, the venue of the second match against Mexico, and one hour and 50 minutes to Kazan, the venue of the third match against Germany.
