President Moon Jae-in will pay a state visit to China next week at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, Cheong Wa Dae said Wednesday. It will be his first visit to Beijing since he took office.
Moon will meet with Xi and major Chinese leaders including Premier Li Keqiang, presidential spokesman Park Soo-hyun told reporters. He will stay in Beijing on Dec. 13-15 and visit Chongqing the next day.
"Chongqing has many historic sites including a provisional Korean government building and Hyundai and other Korean companies have offices there," a Cheong Wa Dae official said. "The city is also the starting point of Xi's 'One Belt One Road Initiative.'"
Hyundai completed an assembly plant with an annual capacity of 300,000 cars in the city in July this year, just as China's unofficial boycott of Korean goods and services over the THAAD deployment was at its height. It began production in September.
