THAAD Row Affects Chinese Consumer Sentiment

    A spat over the deployment of a Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense battery from the U.S. here seems to have negatively affected the image of Korean products in China.

    According to a survey of about 1,000 Chinese consumers in the major 10 cities in China by the Korea International Trade Association, over 83 percent of the respondents said that they became negative toward Korean products.

    Around 60 percent answered that they do not buy Korean products now. But 63 percent also said that they would consider buying Korean products again once the THAAD issue is resolved.

    The association's analysis suggests that it will take some time for Korean firms to earn Chinese consumers' trust again.
