Lee Sang-hwa finished second in the women's 500-m race in the International Skating Union's World Cup Speed Skating event in Calgary, Canada on Sunday.

Lee, the two-time Olympic gold medalist and the world record holder in the women's 500-m speed skating, clocked a time of 36.86 seconds, behind Nao Kodaira of Japan who was 0.33 seconds faster than Lee.

Kodaira has swept all five World Cup races this season, holding the top spot and inching closer to the world record of 36.36 seconds Lee set at a race in Salt Lake City, Utah in 2013.

It remains to be seen whether Lee will be able to break Kodaira's run in the upcoming Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, which opens in early February.
