Even a slight decrease in temperature in winter can increase and aggravate health issues for many people, recent studies show.

Researchers from the University of Athens in Greece observed subjects in 15 European cities, and found that a drop of only one degree in temperature multiplied the number of people suffering from respiratory disorders or other illnesses. The number of patients with respiratory issues went up by 3.3 percent, heart problems by 1.72 percent and cerebrovascular diseases by 1.25 percent.

Further, lower temperatures increased the number of deaths. Mortality increased by 1.35 percent a day when the outdoor temperature went down by a degree.

Several studies conducted in Korea also show a correlation between cold temperatures and health risks.

A medical team at Seoul National University Hospital figured out that a degree decrease in the heat index increased hypothermia by eight percent.

Another study conducted at Soonchunhyang University Hospital shows that a degree drop in temperature can aggravate symptoms of severe asthma in one out of six patients.
