Ex-President Park Geun-hye's crony Choi Soon-sil was on Thursday confronted with one of the most damning pieces of evidence in their corruption trial, a tablet PC handed over to prosecutors by a TV channel.

But Choi denied the tablet was hers, even though several of her selfies were found on it. The tablet also contains classified Cheong Wa Dae documents, including a draft of a speech Park was to give in Germany.

Choi regularly edited speeches written for Park, who for some reason had unlimited faith in her friend’s brand of high-toned nonsense that made them well-nigh incomprehensible. The speeches and other documents were habitually sent to Choi by former presidential secretary Jeong Ho-seong.

"Prosecutors have made a false charge against me though I have never used the tablet," Choi told the court. After taking a close look at the tablet that day, Choi claimed, "I saw this for the first time today."

Lacking a solid defense, Choi has darkly muttered about a conspiracy to stitch her up throughout her marathon trial, the alleged plot involving everyone from Koh Young-tae, her alleged ex-lover-turned-whistleblower, TV channel JTBC and the prosecutors' office.

"I still wonder why it has taken a full year for prosecutors to make a mere tablet public," Choi's lawyer, Lee Kyung-jae, said. "From the beginning, prosecutors have conducted their investigation in a wrong direction based on a hasty conclusion that it belongs to Choi."

But prosecutors said they submitted a report on the analysis of files in the tablet to the court in accordance with the rules of evidence.

The court on Thursday was only tasked with examining the outside of the tablet without turning it on, for fear that activating it would allow the contents to be altered.
