Apple's iPhone X, which is set to be released around the world on Friday, will cost a whopping W200,000 more in Korea than in the U.S. (US$1=W1,115).

Apple Korea said on its website on Wednesday that the 64 GB version of the iPhone X will cost W1.42 million here and the 256 GB model W1.63 million. The Korean release date has not been set yet.

The sales price in Korea is a massive 27 percent higher than in the U.S. even if taxes are factored in. In the U.S., the 64GB model costs US$999 and the 256GB model W1,149.

In the case of the iPhone 8, which hits showrooms in Korea on Friday, the price is W990,000, also some W200,000 more than in the U.S.

Prices of the iPhone X vary widely from country to country. In the U.S., Japan, Hong Kong and Canada, the 64 GB version costs between W1.1 to W1.3 million, in Korea W1.4 million, and in Italy and Sweden more than W1.5 million.

Apple is apparently having problems producing enough iPhone Xs, so they are not expected to arrive here until December at the earliest. The country was not included in the 57 nations that get the first shipments because the market for Apple products is so small.
