This year's Busan International Film Festival kicked off its 10-day run on Thursday with a screening of Shin Su-won's "Glass Garden."

The annual festival will feature 298 films from 75 countries.

People gather at an outdoor stage for the opening ceremony of the 22nd Busan International Film Festival in the southern port city on Thursday.

The opening film is a mystery drama starring Moon Geun-young, who recently resumed her acting career after recovering from acute compartment syndrome.

"Love Education" by Taiwanese director Sylvia Chang, who was a popular actress in the 1980s, will close the festival on Oct. 21.

This is the first time the festival will open and close with screenings of films by female directors.
