Nearly all 156 key national installation are easy targets for North Korean missile attacks, according to data from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
In a report to Liberty Korea Party lawmaker Lee Cheol-woo on Wednesday, the ministry said an inspection of 156 government-designated power plants, substations, refineries and other installations revealed that only four of them can withstand a missile attack.
They are fortified by defensive walls and other impact-absorbing features.
The ministry also pointed out that 25 of them are vulnerable to earthquakes, and another 14 lack underground bomb shelters. And two-thirds of the facilities that do have bomb shelters are capable of sheltering only 68 percent of their staff.
Fewer than one-fifth are equipped with gas masks, and only 32 percent have anti-toxins in case of biological weapons attacks. Only about one in three has bullet-proofed central areas and two-thirds have 2.7-m high walls as required to keep intruders out.
