The number of dollar millionaires in Korea reached over 200,000 last year.
Worldwide, the number of millionaires grew by 7.5 percent or 1.15 million to 16.5 million, according to a report by consulting firm Capgemini on Sunday. In Korea, the number rose by 15,000 to 208,000 or 13th place in the world, the same as last year.
The figures are based on financial assets but not real estate. Millionaires' total wealth rose 8.2 percent or $4.8 trillion to $63.5 trillion in 2016 from a year earlier.
The U.S. had the largest number with 4.8 million, followed by Japan (2.89 million), Germany (1.28 million) and China (1.13 million). Millionaires in the top four countries accounted for a whopping 61.1 percent of the worldwide total.
