Retired baseball player Hong Sung-heon will join Major League Baseball as a coach for the San Diego Padres.
Hong, who is currently on the training course as an intern coach for the Padres, said Tuesday that he has been offered the job by the team's general manager A.J. Preller.
He has a fair chance to take the position of a battery coach, considering his career as a catcher and hitter.
He said that his proactive attitude and hard work seemed to pay off within a year.
"At first, I didn't understand what was said exactly [because of the language barrier]. But I've moved heaven and earth to learn and help the team despite the scorching heat," Hong said. "I will keep trying my best at any position I may take on the team next year."
