Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was elected as chair of the International Olympic Committee's Ethics Commission in Lima, Peru on Thursday last week.

The Ethics Commission is an independent body that investigates violations of the IOC's Code of Ethics.

It was formed in 1999 after a corruption scandal involving several IOC members over the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, which subsequently got them expelled.

The Commission consists of nine members, and the chair serves a four-year term which can be renewed.

Ban was named in June as the second chair of the commission after Senegal's former constitutional court chief Youssoupha Ndiaye.
