Korean footballers returned home from Uzbekistan on Thursday after securing a spot at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Korea managed to advance to the World Cup for the ninth consecutive time after a scoreless draw against Uzbekistan in the final leg of Asian qualifiers in Tashkent on Tuesday.
"I am happy that we finally qualified for a ninth consecutive World Cup appearance," manager Shin Tae-yong said upon his arrival at Incheon International Airport.
Asked about the team's poor play in the latest qualifying round, Shin admitted he was not satisfied either. "We had to focus on defense rather than offense, as it was crucial to advance to the next round. But we will try to show our offensive side in the upcoming matches."
Meanwhile, Korea will play a friendly match against Tunisia in Cannes, France next month.
