Gov't Recognizes More Victims of Oxy Poisoning Scandal

    The government has recognized another 114 people as victims of toxic disinfectants in the Oxy scandal, raising the official number to 388. The Environment Ministry on Thursday said a committee dealing with the scandal recognized the additional victims.

    A total of 1,214 people had applied to be recognized as victims of long-term exposure to the toxic germicide contained in humidifier disinfectants manufactured by Oxy Reckitt Benckiser and others.

    The committee recognized 17 out of 42 people who said they were affected by the toxic agent in the womb. "We will first provide compensation for the money spent on treat the babies after birth and come up with additional funding to cover rehabilitation and nursing expenses," a ministry official said.
