Former national football team coach Cha Bum-kun was named one of the "Bundesliga legends."

Germany's Bundesliga chose nine ex-professionals "whose popularity makes them ideal brand ambassadors" for the league.

"The record Asian goal scorer in Bundesliga history, [Cha Bum-kun's] 308 appearances and almost 100 goals have cemented him as one of not just Asia's but the Bundesliga's all-time greats," it said.

Cha joined SV Darmstadt 98 in 1978 and transferred to Eintracht Frankfurt the following year and began his domination of the Bundesliga until he retired at Bayer Leverkusen in 1989, scoring 98 goals in Germany's Bundesliga in the 1980s.

Other legends include German player Lothar Matthäus, Mexican Pavel Pardo, American Steven Cherundolo, Brazilian Paulo Sergio and Chinese Jiayi Shao.
