Speed limits on most of Seoul's roads will be lowered to protect pedestrians, the Seoul Metropolitan Government said on Sunday.
In collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, the city government plans to reduce speed limits to 50 km/h from the current 60 km/h on main roads and to 30 km/h from 40-50 km/h on side streets.
Speed limits on highways will remain at 70-80 km/h.
"The measure will make pedestrians safer and reduce casualties from traffic accidents," a police spokesperson said.
