President Moon Jae-in spoke on the phone with French President Emmanuel Macron for the first time on Monday, expressing hope of strengthening the bilateral partnership.
Macron, who like Moon was elected to office earlier this month, told Moon that France will fully support Seoul in trying to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue.
Moon promised to send his foreign minister to Paris at the earliest possible date.
The two leaders will come face-to-face in July at the G20 summit in Germany, although no specific arrangements have yet been made for a separate meeting on the sidelines.
