Fewer than 1 million foreigners visited duty-free shops in Korea last month for the first time since the MERS scare in 2015.
The Korea Duty-Free Shops Association on Tuesday said some 3.7 million people including nearly 2.7 million Koreans and 998,000 foreigners visited duty-free shops here in April, nine percent lower than in April last year.
Foreign customers topped 1.9 million in August last year, but then Chinese visitors dwindled drastically amid a spat over the deployment of a Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense battery here early this year.
