Korea to Move on to Round of 16 in U-20 World Cup

    Korea will move on to the round of 16 in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Korea after winning its first two matches.

    Korea beat Argentina 2-1 in its second group match held in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province on Tuesday. It had beat Guinea 2-0 in the opening match on Sunday.

    With six points, Korea is in the top of its group. England is in second place with four points from one win and one draw, Guinea is in third with one point from one draw and one loss, and Argentina is at the bottom with two losses.

    Korea will face England in the final group match in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province on Friday.

    Korean players were valiant against Argentina, who has the most U-20 World Cup titles with six. Lee Seung-woo, a forward for FC Barcelona Juvenil A, scored in the 18th minute, and Paik Seung-ho, a midfielder for FC Barcelona B, doubled the lead when he converted a penalty.

    A total of 24 teams qualified for the biennial international youth football championship. They were divided into six groups, with four countries in each group. The top two finishers of each group will automatically advance to the round of 16, and four third-place teams with the most points go to the next round as well.

    Korea's best finish ever in the U-20 World Cup was in Mexico in 1983 when they made it to the semifinals.
