Korea beat Guinea 3-0 in the opening match of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province on Sunday. The biennial international youth football championship will run until June 11.
Lee Seung-woo opened the scoring in the 36th minute, dribbling past two defenders and finding the net with a bold strike while virtually surrounded. Thirty minutes later, the Barcelona youth team forward featured in Korea's second goal, passing the ball through the legs of a defender to FC Seoul's Lim Min-hyeok, who scored.
In the 81st minute, FC Barcelona B midfielder Paik Seung-ho's lob over the keeper made it 3-0.
The young Korean players played a bold brand of football, seizing opportunities as they arose, dribbling and passing with confidence, and pushing the ball forward whenever a space opened up.
Korea sits atop its group with England, who beat Argentina 3-0 on Sunday. Korea faces Argentina in Jeonju on Tuesday and England in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province on Friday.
