Samsung racked up over 1 million pre-orders for its latest flagship phone in Korea between April 7 and 17.
The three major telecoms SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus on Tuesday started supplying activated Galaxy S8 handsets to customers who had pre-ordered them, and a record 260,000 customers activated them on the first day.
Those without pre-orders will have to wait until Friday.
Samsung said total pre-orders for the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus amounted to 1.4 million, 2.5 times more than the previous record of 400,000 for the combustible Galaxy Note 7.
