Life expectancy at birth in South Korea is well above most countries' but it also has one of the lowest birthrates in the world.
The latest edition of the CIA's World Factbook released Monday puts the life expectancy of South Koreans at 82.4 years, the 12th-longest in the world. That is over a decade longer than North Korea's 70.4 years.
But South Korea still has one of the lowest fertility rates in the world at an average of 1.25 children born to each woman in her lifetime. North Korea has a fertility rate of two.
