Lim Eun-soo finished fourth at the International Skating Union World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Taipei on Saturday, setting a new personal best.
Lim scored 116.03 points in the free skate, a day after earning 64.78 points in the short program. Her combined score of 180.81 beat her previous best of 173.32, set in October last year.
While not a podium finish, it was the best performance by a Korean figure skater since figure-skating star Kim Yu-na won the event in 2006 at the age of 16.
Lim's performance was perfect midway through her free skate, but she fell while landing a combination jump later in the program. "Participating in big events has shown me where my weaknesses lie, and I will work hard to improve," she said
Alina Zagitova of Russia won the gold medal with 208.60 points.
With Cha Jun-hwan's fifth-place finish in the men's singles in the same event, Korea made top-five finishes in both the men's and women's singles for the first time at the World Junior Figure Skating Championships.
