Pink is the color this spring as the fashion sections of department stores erupt in sunnier hues.

Lotte Department Store drew the conclusion by looking at the spring releases of 50 major fashion brands. Son Eul-kyung at Lotte said, "Pink is full of life and can inject energy into a depressed atmosphere."

For several years now, pink has been a new metrosexual shade in men's wardrobes. And this spring, women, who had been worried about seeming to girlie in pink, are boldly wearing it again.

Haute couture brands like Hermes, Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga and Vetements are also revolting against the Barbie stereotype and rolling out the spring/summer collections where pink is dominant.

But why? American designer Michael Kors, who showcased hot pink trench coats and knitted dresses, said this season's pink is related to power, and women these days want to feel feminine as well as powerful and independent.

Color specialists Pantone say pink is a surprisingly good match with a variety of skin tones. The darker the skin, the hotter the shade should be. To someone who is not used to wearing pink, opaque pink with a grey or sand tint could be an easy starting point.
