The number of Koreans traveling overseas has grown a whopping six times more than the number of people who choose domestic holidays.
According to data from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Wednesday, 12.7 million Koreans traveled overseas in 2011, but that had risen 10.4 percent to 19.3 million in 2015.
The number of people who chose domestic destinations only increased 1.8 percent from 35 million to 38 million over the same period. Last year, the number of overseas travelers hit a record of 22.4 million.
Travelers are also spending more money. The amount they spent abroad rose 39 percent from US$15.5 billion in 2011 to $21.5 billion in 2015.
The amoney spent on traveling and sightseeing at home also rose 26 percent from W20.2 trillion to W25.4 trillion (US$1=W1,146).
