The Seoul Central District Court said Friday that it has summoned Kang Jung-ho of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Kang was slapped with a W1.5 million fine late last year for drunk driving (US$1=W1,148).
A court official said, "Kang has been caught three times for driving under the influence and was even involved in a hit-and-run, requiring a court to decide his punishment."
On Dec. 2 last year, Kang hit a guard rail near Samseong Subway Station in Seoul and fled the scene.
A friend who was in the passenger seat later reported him to police. Kang's blood alcohol level was 0.084 percent, way above the legal limit of 0.05 percent. The baseball player originally lied that his friend had been behind the wheel.
Meanwhile, Kang has agreed to undergo an alcohol treatment program recommended by a Major League Baseball panel, U.S. media reported Sunday.
