A court in the Danish town of Aalborg on Monday extended the detention of Chung Yoo-ra, the daughter of President Park Geun-hye's longtime confidante Choi Soon-sil.

The court decided to detain Chung until Feb. 22 to review an extradition request from Korea.

The move has poured cold water on hopes that Chung can be questioned by the independent counsel team investigating the massive Cheong Wa Dae corruption scandal in the allotted time.

The initial 70-day investigation period ends on Feb. 28 and it is uncertain whether the team can get it extended.

Chung appeared in court on Monday for the first time since she was arrested a month ago and denied that she was admitted to the prestigious Ewha Womans University by illicit means.

"I went to school just once and I think the charges are completely absurd," Chung said. "I was not aware of what was going on and did not exchange a single phone call or e-mail with my professors."

Regarding charges that she received massive kickbacks from Samsung for her personal expenses, Chung said, "I always spent money my mother gave me and I had no decision-making rights."

Chung also hinted that the investigation is politically charged. saying, "President Park Geun-hye selected the independent counsel, but I believe the [opposition] People's Party recommended him."
