Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur scored his ninth goal of the English Premier League season on Saturday when he netted a second-half equalizer against Manchester City.
With Spurs down 2-1, Son, who came on as a halftime substitute, scored in the 77th minute. "This goal was special to me because it tied the game," he said after the match.
With the goal, Son became the first Korean to score nine goals in a season in the EPL. The previous season high among Koreans was eight goals, shared by Park Ji sung, a former midfielder for Manchester United and Ki Sung-yueng of Swansea City.
Son also holds the Korean record for the most goals scored in the UEFA Champions League, with six goals, surpassing Park's record of five.
Son now has his sights on Ki's record for the most career EPL goals by an Asian. Son needs one more to tie Ki's record of eight.
