The independent counsel probing the corruption scandal that has engulfed President Park Geun-hye has obtained another tablet PC that seems to have been used by her crony Choi Soon-sil.

The tablet, which contains information about paper companies Choi allegedly ran to launder her slush funds, was handed over last Thursday by Choi's niece Jang Si-ho, who is also under arrest.

This is not the device unearthed by an investigative reporter that triggered the unravelling of the scandal at the end of October last year. Besides containing valuable evidence, it also contradicts Choi's claim that she did not know how to use a tablet PC.

Lee Kyu-chul, a spokesman for the independent counsel, said, "Our comprehensive analysis of the tablet PC confirmed that it was used by Choi."

Investigators said Choi used the tablet from July to November 2015. Jang packed up Choi's belongings last October as the scandal unraveled and kept it.

It contains a number of documents drafted when Choi set up Core Sports in Germany to funnel donations from Samsung for her daughter's equestrian training, and documents written in the process of receiving the funding. "The documents confirm a lot of things that have already been revealed in the investigation," a spokesman for the independent counsel said.

It also contains a revised version of president's agenda for a meeting of presidential secretaries on Oct. 13, 2015, in further proof that Choi widely meddled in government business. "The corrections that Choi seems to have made were actually reflected in Park's final document," the spokesman said.

Investigators are now set to question people who exchanged e-mails with Choi. Samsung chief Lee Jae-yong is likely to be summoned this weekend or early next week.
