Getting married is apparently not the top priority for most women in their 20s. Data released by Statistics Korea on Tuesday shows the average age of women getting married for the first time last year was 30.
The statistics agency found that 42 percent of women say they put their career before having a family, while only 15 percent said they think getting married takes priority.
Taking time off from work to raise a child is a daunting prospect, as around a quarter of people who have taken paternity or maternity leave find they were unable to return successfully to their old job.
Although a growing number of men have been choosing to take a leave of absence to raise kids it is still mainly women who face the most pressure to balance household chores with the demands of work.
