Independent counsel Park Young-soo is setting up an office in Gangnam and will next week start investigating the massive corruption scandal that has engulfed the president.
Park will be focusing on 236 recorded phone conversations found in the mobile phones of former Cheong Wa Dae secretary Jeong Ho-seong.
He told reporters Monday he is "closely working on" the recordings and may publish portions of them.
Around a dozen prosecutors on the independent counsel's team are gathering related documents at another office in Gangnam.
The independent counsel plans to focus his probe on areas that prosecutors were unable to zero in on.
The task before them is to establish a solid link between the alleged criminal activities of President Park Geun-hye's longtime confidante Choi Soon-sil and the president herself, and unravel the extent of the snowballing scandal that reached into every corner of government.
