Beleaguered President Park Geun-hye has no intention of quitting voluntarily and will wait for the Constitutional Court to reach a verdict on her impeachment, lawmakers close to her said Tuesday.

Park made the remarks in a fraught meeting with Saenuri Party leader Lee Jung-hyun and floor leader Chung Jin-suk at Cheong Wa Dae.

They told Park that the Saenuri Party can no longer sustain its offer for her to make an orderly exit in April amid record protests against her every weekend.

The National Assembly votes on the impeachment motion on Friday.

"Park said she is determined to accept the impeachment in a calm and composed manner," Chung said at a party meeting later.

"Even if the impeachment bill is passed, I am resolved to continue calmly for the country and the people, while watching the constitutional court procedures," he quoted her as saying.

But in reality her powers will be suspended the moment the impeachment vote passes and handed over to the caretaker prime minister. This raises suspicions that she is merely interested in sheltering under the immunity of nominal office to prepare her defense in the massive corruption scandal that has engulfed her.

In a further sign that Park is now merely digging in, Cheong Wa Dae said she will not deliver any more addresses to the nation since her intentions were "clearly conveyed" through the Saenuri lawmakers.
