Swimmer Park Tae-hwan on Thursday won his first international race since putting in a disappointing performance at the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil in August.

Park finished the men's 200-m freestyle at the Asian Swimming Championships in Tokyo in a time of 1:45.16, beating Wang Shun of China (1:47.07). It was 0.04 seconds faster than Chad le Clos' silver-medal winning time in the same discipline at the Rio Olympics.

The win seems to signal a return to form for Park, who was eliminated in the preliminary round of the 200-m race in Rio with a time of 1:48.06.

He will compete in more events over the weekend.
