A 3.5-magnitude earthquake occurred in the western central city of Boryeong, South Chungcheong Province on Sunday night.
The epicenter was 4 km northeast of the town.
Some local residents reported to firefighters that they felt a distinct tremor. Quakes over 3.0 on the Richter scale can be felt inside buildings.
No damage has been reported, the Korea Meteorological Administration said on Monday, and the thermal power station in the city about 10 km from the epicenter is working normally.
According to the KMA records, this was the second strongest quake in the region since 1978. The region has had 34 quakes stronger than magnitude 2.0 and six of them over 3.0.
