Imported beer is gaining ground in the Korean market and is expected to account for more than 50 percent of total beer sales by next year.
E-Mart said on Sunday that imported beer accounted for 17.4 percent of its beer sales in 2011, but the figure increased to 38.3 percent last year and is at 44.5 percent so far this year.
The supermarket chain attributed the increase to the growing number of single households.
"Lager has been the most popular imported beer, but as demand for ale and craft beer is also increasing, [imports] will likely account for over 50 percent of beer sales next year," it said
