High heels can come at a high cost to health as they strain muscles in the legs and put pressure on the feet where nature does not want them.
The weight in high-heeled shoes is no longer evenly distributed across the sole but concentrated on the front of the foot. This causes feet to swell easily and can cause various problems including bunions.
The uncomfortable posture and unstable balance, meanwhile, strain leg and back muscles and can hurt the spine.
If wearing high heels is inevitable, they should not be worn for more than six hours at a time. Medium-high heels of about 3 to 4 cm are better than taller ones, and the toes should be rounded rather than pointy or squeezed.
After wearing high heels, massage your feet and calf to ease muscles that took the brunt of the ordeal. Start by soaking your feet in warm water for five to 10 minutes to stimulate blood circulation to maximize the benefit of the massage.
