More than half of Koreans travel abroad every one or two years and think little of their own country’s attractions, a straw poll suggests.
The Chosun Ilbo interviewed 100 random travelers at Incheon International Airport in July, and 55 said they go abroad every year or two, while 60 said they consciously picked foreign destinations over domestic ones.
When asked about the quality of tourism facilities in Korea, a majority said there is a lack of sights to see, and most attractions are much the same with little to do.
Others said there are too many restaurants and not much else, and the prices at the sites are a rip-off.
Others complained about bad service. Many respondents said they have fallen victim to overcharging in accommodation and other services in popular tourist spots during peak season, while others said they were turned off by poor service there.
