Sales at duty-free stores hit a record high last month. The Korea Duty Free Association says sales topped US$900 million in July, up over four percent from the previous month.

The figure is the highest since related data was first compiled in 2009.

Sales nearly doubled from the same month last year, when the country was reeling from the outbreak of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome.

The number of shoppers also hit an all-time high -- with more than 4.3 million people coming to the stores in July, up over four percent from June and more than 56 percent on-year.
