Samsung has launched a counteroffensive in a spate of smartphone patent-infringement lawsuits filed by Huawei.
The Korean electronics giant said Friday it filed six patent-infringement suits against the Chinese smartphone maker in an intellectual property court in Beijing, claiming that Huawei's smartphones and tablet PCs infringe Samsung patents on mobile communications and images.
Huawei, now the world's No. 1 smartphone and communications equipment manufacturer, filed two patent-infringement lawsuits against Samsung in the U.S. in May and early this month.
The companies are simultaneously in talks over a cross-licensing agreement, but Huawei appears to have decided to up the ante.
A Samsung spokesman said, "We'd prefer to resolve the dispute through negotiations rather than in the courts, but we have to respond to unreasonable patent suits."
